Spiritual Meaning Of Sunflowers

🌻 It's sunflower season! 🌻

Did you know that there are more than 70 different species of sunflowers? And that they typically bloom from July through late August (sometimes into September)? Sunflowers belong to the daisy family and their original name is "Helianthus." This is Greek and Latin and stands for "sun and flower" and also "annual sun." The original French and Spanish meanings also include "turning with the sun" when describing this plant. The spiritual meaning behind this flower is being authentic and embracing our individuality. It also reminds us that we can thrive in more environments than we perhaps originally thought. 🌻

Sunflowers can be used for a multitude of things. In addition to looking quite pretty during this time of year, their seeds are harvested, pressed and stored in order to make sunflower seed oil, dried seeds and more from it for the colder winter months to come. I was surprised to see some sunflowers when I was hiking Glacier National Park last year, a climate I would have not thought to be conducive to this flower. I was mistaken, as the sunflower can thrive in many harsh climates. 🌻 Do you work with the sunflower? Happy sunflower season!🌻🌼
